The Global Healthcare Accreditation (GHA) for Medical Travel Services is an independent accrediting body that received ISQua accreditation in 2019. GHA’s international standards and professional norms for medical travel were developed in consultation with leading global experts in the industry, including providers, insurers and employers committed to establishing best practices in medical travel, which support healthcare providers in validating quality and patient experience, increasing visibility, and implementing a sustainable business model for providers along the entire medical travel care continuum. In addition, through its partnerships with industry leaders, GHA provides ongoing value to its clients with initiatives such as discounts on medical complication insurance and educational resources and access to insurance networks such as Saudi Enaya.
Safety & Ethics
In the US, healthcare is a highly regulated practice. Because the government keeps a close eye on hospitals and medical facilities, you know what you’re getting when you go to receive treatment. However, not all foreign countries have the same regulations as the US. If you choose to undergo medical tourism, make sure you research the regulations of the country you will visit and see if they have any credentials for regulating facilities. The Joint Commission International is a great place to start when searching for safe care facilities abroad. Also, the Global Healthcare Accreditation (GHA) Program For Medical Travel Services offers an accreditation that is specific to the needs of medical travel patients. You can view a list of GHA accredited medical tourism organizations with information about each hospital here.
